- We are currently teaching in a time where technology is gaining acceptance as a useful tool in the classroom¬- elementary school students have class iPad sets, high school students download dictionary apps, and college students read scholarly articles on their iPhone 6 plus. The recent trend of the flipped classroom is one way that educators are also attempting to integrate technology into their teaching by extending learning out side of the classroom. The research on the flipped class method has only scratched the surface of possibilities available to students; and of the published material that exists, little attention is given to the instructors' role and outcomes. While the student outcomes are crucial to the success of a flipped class, advantages for the instructor must also be explored. This study looks at instructors' roles, outcomes, and advantages in a flipped classroom. Four freshman composition classes designated for multilingual speakers were examined over a 20-week time frame in order to compare instructors' perspectives on flipping. One class fully committed to the flipped class moving all grammar instruction to the videos, and two classes partially committed to the flipped class converting only some of the grammar instruction to videos. The aim of this research is to show that dedicating time to flip a classroom is not only beneficial for the students but also the instructor.

- The purpose of this fifteen-minute demonstration is to share out-of-class activities that we have found to be effective in our own ESL college composition courses, utilizing the flipped classroom pedagogy. A flipped video on the simple present tense, which we created and used in our classrooms, will be shown via a laptop, projector, screen, and speakers. The audience will be given a note-taking sheet to be filled out during the video presentation. During certain times in the video, a note-taking symbol will appear on the screen, at which point audience members will be prompted to take notes. Activities, such as error monitoring exercises, cloze tests, and comprehension questions, will also appear during and at the end of the video to engage the viewers and test their understanding of the grammar point. We have adapted pedagogical complements (Bretzmann, 2014) for this technology to suit our purposes in an ESL higher education settings. Both the runtime of the video and activity completion with note-taking will be five minutes each. In addition, we will explain the rationale for our out-of-class activities, discuss other ideas for engagement and student accountability, and answer questions from the audience.

- Project-based learning is the 2.0 version of the flipped classroom. This blended pedagogy relinquishes any remnant of traditional teaching methods, especially the dreaded worksheet often used for completing an activity or task. Instead, project-based learning allows ESL teachers to provide meaningful lessons because this method creates opportunities for learners to use English in authentic contexts, to boost their inquiry to experiment with the language, and to stimulate their creativity when using language, all the while enjoying their classroom time. As a result of each project's appeal, students are held accountable not by an obligation but by a desire and willingness to participate in the classroom. Thus, this poster presentation provides tips for ESL instructors through a succession of innovative and interactive activities offered by more extensive projects designed for a lesson on idiomatic expressions. The poster illustrates the essence of project-based learning's purpose, which is to create effective and interesting projects, structured as a staircase, while engaging the learner with the target language.
