- The purpose of this study was to assess differences in food security status among college students enrolled in a public CSU campus based on their GPA, race/ethnicity, and living arrangements. This study also identified the prevalence of food insecurity in student participants. A cross-sectional design was used, with a main study sample size of 597 students and a pilot study sample size of 77 students. This study involved an analysis of primary original data using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Three hypotheses were tested using a Chi Square test at an alpha level of .05. The results of the hypotheses revealed no differences in food security status based on participants GPA or race/ethnicity. However, a difference in food security status was found based on participants living arrangements. Additional factors were identified which also resulted in differences in food security status among this selected college student population, including income level, credit card debt, self-reported health status, and use of food coping strategies. The present study found that approximately one in three students were food insecure.

- Background: With patellar tendinopathy (PaT) being a highly prevalent orthopedic condition, it is important to compare the efficacy of new interventions such as extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) with popular interventions such as eccentric exercise (EE).

- Description:
- The luminosity calibration for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV in 2010 and 2011 is presented. Evaluation of the luminosity scale is performed using several luminosity-sensitive detectors, and comparisons are made of the long-term stability and accuracy of this calibration applied to the pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV. A luminosity uncertainty of delta L/L = +/- 3.5 % is obtained for the 47 pb(-1) of data delivered to ATLAS in 2010, and an uncertainty of delta L/L = +/- 1.8 % is obtained for the 5.5 fb(-1) delivered in 2011.

- Description:
- The purpose of this study was to examine the similarities and differences in personality characteristics of gifted achievers and gifted underachievers, in order to add to the knowledge already accumulated. This area appears to be the most neglected of all in the study of gifted achievers and underachievers. Within the last few years investigators have become interested in, and have examined, family relationships, socio-economic status, cultural deprivation, self-attitudes, and many other pertinent areas; but little emphasis has been placed on examining the personality characteristics of gifted achievers and underachievers. There are few studies of the personality characteristics of gifted achievers and underachievers which report consistent findings, and, in fact, many studies contradict others. Researchers have often included the personality variable as just one of a number of variables of an experimental design. There have been only a few studies which have used the personality variable as the single dependent variable of an experiment. This study was concerned only with the personality characteristics of the Intellectually gifted achievers and intellectually gifted underachievers.

- Description:
- Currently, many prosthetic devices are available on the market. However, most of these devices are inefficient because they are either difficult to operate, require too much power, or they are extremely costly. Magnetorheological (MR) fluid is a smart fluid; a prosthesis carried out with this fluid requires less power than other devices and is simpler to operate. The purpose of the study is to theoretically model a prosthetic knee and predict the braking torque. A knee similar to MR brake was designed. The proposed design of the MR fluid knee features a non-circular rotor, which results in a variable gap size for the MR fluid between the stator and the rotor. The torque generated by the MR fluid knee is highly dependent on the gap size, angle, and the applied current. Therefore, the gap size varies with the angle of the knee. When the current is applied and MR knee is subjected to a magnetic field, it produces yield stress due to the shear friction which results in the generation of variable braking torque. The braking torque generated is the function of angle and the applied current. A torque equation is derived from the theoretical data to yield the predicted results.

- Description:
- The 1962 Amendments to the Social Security Act delegate to public welfare departments the responsibility for providing social services to their clients in addition to financial assistance. The purpose of this study is to evaluate Child Welfare Services in Santa Barbara County and to gather information that' may lead to further research in the area of evaluating social services provided by public welfare departments.
