- What influence do syntax and phonology have on one another ? Two types of answer to this question appear in the literature. The consensus view is probably best expressed by Zwicky & Pullum (1986) (see also Myers 1987; Vogel & Kenesei 1990), who claim that the relation is one-way: although phonological phrasing above the word is affected by syntactic structure, syntax itself is phonology-free.

- Findings of this study suggest that the deaf student Is held In a less favorable regard by his peer group. Because only positive sociometric techniques were used, It cannot be assumed, however, that he is rejected by his classmates. The type of academic class of which he was a member, and Its curricula being studied might have been a reason for biased selectivity since the problem stated the future possibinty of a work project. If the subject were English, for example, it is likely that the hearing student night have believed the project would involve writing, listening or speaking skills and he would select those classmates known to excel in these areas, thereby passing over the deaf student whose language abilities are questionable.

- A search for pair production of first-generation leptoquarks (LQ) is performed with data collected by the DO experiment in p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. In a sample of data corresponding to similar to 1 fb(-1) the search has been performed on the final states with two electrons and two jets or one electron, two jets and missing transverse energy. We find our data consistent with standard model expectations. The results are combined with those found in a previous analysis of events with two jets and missing transverse energy to obtain scalar LQ mass limits. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on a scalar LQ mass of 299 GeV. 284 GeV and 216 GeV for beta = 1, beta = 0.5 and beta = 0.02 respectively, where beta is the LQ branching ratio in the eq channel. This improves the results obtained with a lower luminosity sample from Run II of the Tevatron. Lower limits on vector LQ masses with different couplings from 357 GeV to 464 GeV for beta = 0.5 are also set using this analysis.

- In the sports world of vigorous physical activity, It is essential that all athletes and athletic teams have the proper emotional outlook toward conditioning practices. The habit of smoking is a specific problem encountered by coaches throughout the athletic world. There are voluminous writings on the physiological ill effects of cigarettes, but none presenting actual psychologically concrete guidelines to stop or prevent an athlete from smoking. It is the purpose of this study to establish feasible guidelines for coaches to follow in presenting concrete arguments against smoking to athletes. It is also the intent of this study to review the current literature to record pertinent data on the psychoemotional, statistical, habitual, societal and physiological factors of smoking. An understanding of these factors will greatly supplement the coaches' knowledge in presenting the guides.

- Studies have demonstrated that phonological awareness is an essential skill for learning to read. Often students experience reading difficulties because they cannot differentiate between phonemes. This study investigates the efficacy of the reading intervention, Visual Phonics, for teaching phonological awareness. Visual Phonics is a program that teaches phonics with hand signs. Ten first grade students who received Visual Phonics in tandem with a direct instruction program (Reading Mastery) were compared to 10 first grade students who received Reading Mastery alone. The two groups scores from the Dynamic Indicator of Basic Literacy Skills (DIBELS) were compared at three different time points. Results demonstrated there was no significant difference between the students who received Visual Phonics with Reading Mastery and the students who received Reading Mastery alone, but all children significantly improved regardless of which intervention they received.

- Generation of household waste has become an issue of serious concern for urban areas in recent years. To tackle this issue, recycling has been one of the most practiced methods applicable in waste management. Recycling in the city of Laramie, Wyoming has a history that dates back to 1983 with the establishment of Ark Recycling center. Laramie officially started its recycling services in 2011 with recycling accepted at the landfill site location. About 414 tons or 3% of Laramie's residential waste was collected through curbside recycling program and diverted away from landfill in the first five months of the program. The composition of the city's current single stream recyclable is: 77% paper, 11% plastics, 6% metals, 1.25% glass, and 4.75% residue. The purpose of this study is to examine local, state, regional, and national best practiced recycling programs and policies and make recommendations to the City of Laramie to assist them in obtaining their 2030 goal. The data collected and analyzed includes secondary sources such as annual reports, plans, and relevant literatures. The results uncovered hint that Laramie could introduce disposal fees, subsidized recycling, and advance disposal fees/deposits/rebates and Master Plan to meet its 40% waste diversion rate by 2030. The policies such as "The Bottle Bill" introduced by San Francisco and Hawaii, the "Pay as you Throw" policy adopted by Austin, Texas and Vancouver, Washington, and massive educational policies embraced by Boulder are some of effective policies that Laramie can replicate to make its recycling program more effective and sustainable.

- The publication of Robert Ardrey's The Territorial Imperative in 1966 has focused light on a concept that will probably become as important and culturally arousing as Darwin s theory of evolution and Freud's theory of the human unconscious. Until Ardrey's book appeared, the concept of territoriality remained latent in the works of many scientists and in the pages of many specialized books and journals. Ardrey's book, with all the controversy surrounding it and taking into account some of its defects, is proving to be a catalyst to increasing both public and scientific interest. More importantly, it has invigorated research and experimentation in the new field of territoriality. An adequate definition of territoriality at the present time is a very difficult matter. Unfortunately, none of the present definitions express the total complexity of the concept. However, for the purpose of introduction two simple definitions are offered at this point. The most concise, though not complete, definition would probably be Noble's: "Territory is any defended area" (Nice, 1941, p. 441) . Part of the definition that Robert Ardrey opened his book with might also be considered: "A territory is an area of space, whether of water or earth or air, which an animal or group of animals defends as an exclusive preserve ..." (Ardrey, 19G6, p. 3). Just these two definitions find the geographer right in the midst of territoriality.

- The purpose of this study was to find a possible difference between depression and substance use among students at Fresno State. Furthermore, the study analyzed the possible differences between depression and substance use among Hispanic and non-Hispanic students. According to the American Psychological Association(APA), both mental illnesses and substance abuse problems are common in college students (Eiser, 2011). This type of co-occurring disorder is common and affects 60% of the people affected by substance abuse (Volkow, 2007). Current research indicated minimal research has been completed regarding depression and substance use disorders among Hispanic student populations. This study is a secondary analysis of the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment II survey that was administered to a random sample of Fresno State students during the spring 2015 semester. The ACHA-NCHA II survey is a nationally recognized survey that provides current information about the health habits, behaviors, and perceptions of the college community (American College Health Association, 2013). Analysis of the ACHA-NCHA II survey data will be conducted during the spring 2016 semester.

- Searches for new resonances decaying into two photons in the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are described. The analysis is based on protonproton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb(-1) at root s = 13TeV recorded in 2015. Two searches are performed, one targeted at a spin-2 particle of mass larger than 500 GeV, using Randall-Sundrum graviton states as a benchmark model, and one optimized for a spin-0 particle of mass larger than 200 GeV. Varying both the mass and the decay width, the most significant deviation from the background-only hypothesis is observed at a diphoton invariant mass around 750 GeV with local significances of 3.8 and 3.9 standard deviations in the searches optimized for a spin-2 and spin-0 particle, respectively. The global significances are estimated to be 2.1 standard deviations for both analyses. The consistency between the data collected at 13TeV and 8TeV is also evaluated. Limits on the production cross section times branching ratio to two photons for the two resonance types are reported.

- Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors that correlate with medication non-adherence in teens diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. Background: The impact of medication non-adherence often begins in childhood where children depend and learn from their care-givers how to manage their health. Children with chronic disorders are among those at risk for a higher medication non-adherence. Juvenile arthritis (JA) is a chronic childhood disorder where often medication non-adherence is an issue. Methodology: This was a mixed-method qualitative and quantitative pilot study. Teens between the ages of 11 – 17 years, with juvenile arthritis were asked to volunteer in this study. Their medication adherence score were measured utilizing a Modified Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS). The second survey was to assess the patient’s knowledge of their medication and was called the open-ended questionnaire. Fisher’s exact test was used to determine if there was a statistical relationship between age, gender and ethnicity with their Modified Medication Adherence Score (MMAS). Knowledge comprehension of their medication’s action was then compared to medication adherence scores. Results: Results varied as some patients scored lowered on their MMAS, but were knowledgeable about the action of their medication. The highest factor for all age groups, genders and ethnicity were forgetfulness. There were inherent limitations in this study as results were varied, subjective and skewed. Conclusions: Based on this study, teens between the ages of 16-17 years of age scored higher in medication adherence. Gender and ethnicity were not shown to have a statistical relationship in their medication adherence scores. Forgetfulness was the common factor identified in medication non-adherence, while medication knowledge was not a factor in medication adherence scores.

- Child welfare social workers are at the forefront of the struggle against the problem of child maltreatment and as a result are often affected by secondary trauma. The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of organizational supports and resources for CPS social workers who experience secondary traumatic stress (STS). This study utilized a qualitative exploratory approach. Purposive nonprobability sampling was used due to the specific focus of this study. A face-to-face interview was conducted with seven participants from Tuolumne County Child Welfare Services Agency. Participants’ employment ranged from less than two years to ten or more years. Data was organized into themes using Neuman’s five-stage process that involved sorting and classifying, open coding, axial coding, selective coding, interpreting, and elaborating the data. A major finding from this study was that the majority of participants were unaware of the supports are offered though the agency. Another major finding was that participants described a lack of agency support and recognition of STS at the administrative level. A second major finding was that participants who were aware of supports identified and discussed the ineffectiveness of four supports available to assist them in addressing STS: counseling through Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), peer support, supervisory support, and occasional educational training. Another major finding was that CPS social workers recommended that on-site support be provided to assist workers who are experiencing STS. Results showed that effective supervision was the most commonly accessed formal support by CPS social workers to address the experiences of STS. The second type of support participants noted was the effectiveness of informal support provided by colleagues. Outcomes presented that CPS workers preferred accessing informal collegial support over formal supports, such as EAP. The current findings suggest that organizations should promote awareness and acceptance of CPS social workers experiencing STS. Effective formal supports need to be provided to assist workers in addressing STS.

- In the United States there is an increasing trend in chronic health conditions such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM), Hypertension (HTN) and Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD). One way of determining an individuals risk for developing these diseases is by evaluating their metabolic profile. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a term used to describe an unhealthy metabolic profile such as, elevated waist circumference, elevated triglycerides, high blood pressure and glucose intolerance. Studies have shown that nuts, such as pistachios, walnuts and almonds, can help reduce the risk of developing CVD and HTN due to their favorable fatty acid profile and nutrient dense composition. This parallel, controlled, randomized study evaluated the effects of daily consumption of 3 oz of pistachios over an 8-week period on 12 subjects with MetS. No significant changes were detected in the variables assessed, Fasting Plasma Glucose, Total Cholesterol, Very Low Density Lipoprotein, Low Density Lipoprotein, Blood pressure, hs-CRP and High Density Lipoprotein. It is important to note that no negative changes were observed. This study supports previous research on pistachios and the claim that: although they are energy dense pistachios can be incorporated into the diet of a high risk subject such as an individual with MetS, without any harmful side effects such as elevated TC and LDL.

- Today's business organization is viewed as a system of human, material, and monetary inputs and outputs. The critical variable is the employee. In order to maximize employee performance, management must ascertain the problems of human behavior in relation to goals of the operation, and within the boundaries of the organization. One of the devices used by progressive management to motivate workers is the formal suggestion system. However, the application of this tool has not had universal accept tance. There is evidence of a division of opinion among recognized personnel administrators and scholars as to the merits of a formalized suggestion system — an interesting enigma. There exists a large portion of successful firms who continue to pass the plan by, who have adopted a program that is now dormant, or who have discontinued the use of a suggestion system as an administrative tool. Other firms continually engage in this activity with dedication, and set forth enthusiastic beneficial claims. This raises the questioni What degree of employment is involved and how successful are the employee suggestion systems in practice? This situation motivated the writer to investigate and evaluate the practices and procedures of employee suggestion systems.

- Background: Shoulder pathology relating to subacromial impingement syndrome has been associated with scapulothoracic dysfunction. The lower trapezius plays an important role in maintaining normal shoulder kinematics as its function is to posteriorly tilt and upward rotate the scapula during arm elevation. Various lower trapezius strengthening exercises have been investigated; the effectiveness in activating these muscles across multiple exercises is mixed. Hypothesis: H1: Horizontal abduction with external rotation performed at 125? in shoulder abducted position will yield the highest EMG activity. H2: Horizontal abduction with external rotation performed at 45? in shoulder abducted position will yield the least UT/LT ratio. Study Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Lower and upper trapezius surface EMG activities were collected from 27 healthy female participants between the ages of 18 to 28 years. Three exercises were measured: horizontal abduction with external rotation, one-arm bent over row, and lawn mower at each angle (45?, 90?, and 125?). Result: A main effect for mean % MVIC indicate significant finding for exercise (F(2,52) = 23.32, P < .001) and angle (F(2,52) = 57.74, P < .001). A significant main effect for UT/LT ratios was observed for exercise (F(2,50) = 6.70, P < .05) and angle (F(2,50) = 6.91, P < .05). There were not interaction for exercise x angle. Conclusion: The studying findings indicate the optimal exercise to strengthen the LT muscle is horizontal abduction with external rotation when compared to bent over row and lawnmower exercises. Performing these exercises at a 125? results the highest activation across all exercises while exercising at a 45? results in the least amount of LT activity. However, individual who cannot abduct the shoulder to 125?, an alternative angle at 90? may produce moderately high LT activity while maintaining moderate UT muscle activity.

- Historically, the profession of psychology has been dominated by men. However, in recent decades there has been a shift in demographics, with now an increasing number of women practitioners. This trend has become apparent in subfields of psychology, including school psychology. In fact, the field of school psychology is now predominately populated by women practitioners, most of whom are Caucasian. Bringing more gender and cultural diversity to the field of school psychology is an ongoing concern, especially now with the heightened awareness of multicultural issues. This study investigated the interest and knowledge of school psychology as a profession, along with four other professions, among 246 college students. Gender, ethnic background, year in school, and academic major were examined as predictors of knowledge and interest in the various professions. Results showed that while students have some knowledge about school psychology, they need more information. Students had similar levels of interest in all five of the surveyed professions. University faculty should focus efforts on educating and recruiting students from all genders and ethnicities to meet the growing demand for school psychology practitioners.

- Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder with a higher prevalence in the United States. Loss of dopamine in the substania nigra compacta and pedunculopontine nucleus causes inhibition to the structures that are responsible for voluntary movements, muscle tone, and gait. Levodopa is the primary medication for dopamine replacement and causes side effects such as dyskinesia, especially during disease progression. ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ medication states fluctuate during the later stage of PD, and can effect backward gait velocity. Objective: To examine the effects of ‘ON’ versus ‘OFF’ medication state of Levodopa on backward gait velocity in individuals with PD.Data Sources: PubMed andGoogle Scholar from 2005 to present.Study Selection: Randomized control trials or cohort studies with subjects diagnosed with idiopathic, minimal to moderate PD, between the ages of 55 to 79,prescribed Levodopa, and independent in ambulation. Backward gait velocity was assessed in ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’ medication states. Conclusion: Significant difference in favor of ‘ON’ versus ‘OFF’ medication state on backward gait velocity in individuals with PD. Physical therapy interventions should include treadmill training with higher intensity during ‘ON’ medication state to possibly improve neuroplasticity, dopamine production, and gait velocity.

- Description:
- A search is presented for a high-mass Higgs boson in the , , , and decay modes using the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The search uses proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb. The results of the search are interpreted in the scenario of a heavy Higgs boson with a width that is small compared with the experimental mass resolution. The Higgs boson mass range considered extends up to for all four decay modes and down to as low as 140 , depending on the decay mode. No significant excess of events over the Standard Model prediction is found. A simultaneous fit to the four decay modes yields upper limits on the production cross-section of a heavy Higgs boson times the branching ratio to boson pairs. 95 % confidence level upper limits range from 0.53 pb at GeV to 0.008 pb at GeV for the gluon-fusion production mode and from 0.31 pb at GeV to 0.009 pb at GeV for the vector-boson-fusion production mode. The results are also interpreted in the context of Type-I and Type-II two-Higgs-doublet models.

- The objective of this study was to develop an orientation program for new students in the Fresno State College residence halls. This program was designed to aid the student in becoming more aware of himself and the relationships he shared with others. It is the belief of the writer that the Fresno State College residence halls have offered educational programs on a "catch as catch can" basis. Individual residence hall staff members have worked with residents to maintain harmony and help them "grow" by accepting responsibility and being considerate of others. Few programs were actually established and carried out with the purpose of helping students to become more aware of themselves and how they affected others. It was with this educational responsibility in mind that this orientation program was developed.

- This collection of poems is like the grapevine: it clings to everything; it grows long and tangled; it reaches high and low; it grows out of the rich soil of human life and the ineffable transformation of death to feed the spirit. INHERITANCE uncovers a legacy of quiet struggle, of deep longing, of hope and uncertainty that comes from both knowing and not knowing. These poems consider the gifts found in the quiet revelation of seeing oneself in a parent, of facing ones own mortality and asking what have I inherited and what will I leave behind? These poems try to piece together stories that are fractured, that have been pruned by parents who are unwilling or unable to talk of such things. Most of all, INHERITANCE considers the gifts that a life offers: the promise of transformation, for personal understanding and reconciliation; in the darkest moments exist the promise of new growth and the opportunity to uncover the ripe fruit that yields to the heat of life for the chance to become the sweetest gift of all.

- In conclusion, the N0T8 Apprentice Program has achieved a great deal of success towards its objective of developing the highly-skilled craftsmen, future key personnel, and supervisors capable of carrying on the highly technical work of the Station. This success can be attributed to the fact that the Program has maintained high standards of apprenticeship and training* The Program, while non-registered (NGPI-230 prohibits entering into agreements with federal or state agencies), easily meets, and in many instances surpasses, the requirements for registration with the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training. It also compares to a high degree with the principles of industrial apprenticeship.

Education, once again in history, has been caught in the aftermath of trends of change. The first half of the twentieth Century has been marked by sweeping social, political and economic changes. It has been the setting for the decline of vast social, political and economic empires, worldwide conflicts of political ideologies, the shifting of economic balances of power within and between nations, two world wars, the shifting and counter shifting of military alignments.
