- The purpose of this study was to explore Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles’s (ALZGLA) ALZ Direct Connect Referral program related to building partnerships with healthcare providers by analyzing referrals, and to identify the geographic locations of these healthcare agencies. The primary investigator utilized existing de-identified data (N=100), Pearson’s Chi Square, independent samples t-test, and analysis of variance to examine the content of the referrals, i.e. caregiver’s primary language, caregiver’s relationship to the client, client’s dual-eligibility (having both health insurances: Medicare and Medi-Cal) status, and the reason for referral. ArcGIS software was utilized to create the geographic map. Results revealed that caregivers who were Spanish-speaking, the spouse of Alzheimer’s patients, and had patients who were dual-eligible were less likely to be linked to ALZGLA’s programs and services. The work presented has implications for social work that include an emphasis on building relationships among professionals and advocating to better serve minority populations.

- Researches argue collaborative governance practices for integrated services in the public sector are impacted primarily by communication and the need to build professional relationships in order to engage and work in partnership (Emerson et al. 2012; Baker, 2002; De Vries, Bakker-Pieper, and Oostenveld 2010; Paul, 2015). Furthermore, collaborating with multiple stakeholders "across boundaries," and "boundary crossing" is beneficial to build consensus and accomplish goals; however, due to lack of clear definition, inconsistent use, organizational infrastructure as well as limited policies and procedures, collaborative governance faces challenges in the public sector. This study advances the understanding of how collaborative governance impacts integrated services in a public sector and identifies communication and professional relationships within an integrated system as common best practices to improving efforts. This study also encompasses a multidimensional perspective for identifying best practices for implementation and scale of integrated services that serve the public at large. In order to encompass a multidimensional perspective, it is essential to cross departmental boundaries and work across boundaries to support a collaborative governance environment and gain respective knowledge on how to best improve efforts of public services throughout Los Angeles County (LACo).

- Description:
- This descriptive study examined characteristics that attract community partnerships within an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme candidate school. The school began the process of becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) school three years ago. Within this timeframe, the school was successful in developing strong community partnerships with organizations, businesses, and parents. Community partners reported four factors for initiating and sustaining involvement. These factors were: (a) the leadership of the school, (b) the IB Programme, (c) personal connections, and (d) the diversity of the population. Characteristics of the IB Programme included the focus on international mindedness and the inquiry-based approach to learning and teaching.
