The changing academic library and what the University of California is attempting to do

In light of the broad interest in enhancing the University of California library system in substantive and cost-effective ways, Richard Atkinson, president of the UC library system, announced an 18-month Library Planning and Action Initiative in August 1996. The Initiative's task force identified 7 strategies to guide the University of California libraries' transition to a digital future, including the recommentation that UC should establish the California Digital Library.
