Myrmekite in Garnet-Sillimanite Cordierite Gneisses and Al-Ti-Zr trends, Gold Butte, Neveda

This presentation illustrates how myrmekite can be a clue that some garnetiferous gneisses are derived from deformed mafic igneous rocks rather than from metamorphism of pelites. The terrane that supports this hypothesis is the Gold Butte area in southeastern Nevada (Fryxell et al., 1992; Volborth, 1962).
