Management skill as a predictor of success

Assessment centers are one of the fastest growing selection methods usedin industry today. However, they are underutilized in hospitality and academe(Lowry, 1994). The hospitality industry can use assessment centers to enhanceboth employee selection and professional development. Hospitality educatorscan use assessment centers as a development tool in producing graduates whomeet the needs of organizations, and also in evaluating administrative andteamwork skills.In this study, the assessment center process used in the graduate hospitalityprogram at Cornell University is described. It was found that leadership skill bestpredicted total income upon graduation.
