Gauged Kac-Moody algebras
Since our fundamental physical theories are field theories based on Lie algebras, and since their formal extensions to superalgebras have also proved important, it is natural to consider other formal generalizations. The only other simple algebraic extension of non-Abelian field theory that seems currently accessible lies in the direction of affine algebras. We are interested in such an extension here. Apart from this general algebraic or kinematical motivation, the possible role of an atfme algebra is particularly suggested by string theory. Here, however, we are not concerned with string theory, but only with gauging an affine algebra in the context of a field theory.
