The United States and the World: an essay on the changing role of international education

During the 1990s, global studies programs in the U.S. changed in responseto dramatic geopolitical and economic changes. This, along with unprecedented growth in international and area studies programs throughout the world, has made it worthwhile to reflect upon the role of international education in higher education. The following essay draws on experiences in developing such programs in Universities both in Eastern Europe and the United States.
