Mobile Air-Drums: Learning To Drum With Haptic Feedback

We outline a mobile drumming system, called Air-Drums, composed of a smart phone and EMG interpreting smart armbands. The system provides a haptic interface for learning and practicing drumming rhythms and timing, independent of any visual stimulus. It also provides a virtual drum set, using either motion sensors or camera for selecting between different drumming sounds. The accuracy of the drumming is examined and validated across the two drumming interfaces. The results of various experimental evaluations are presented.
