How does Writer's Workshop effect [sic] the writing ability of second grade English language learners?

The purpose of this action research is to examine the relationship between the specific teaching of the writing process, using the context of Writer's Workshop three days a week for five months, and the increased writing ability of sixteen-second grade English Language Learners. The students' home languages are: Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Filipino. Student writing samples were scored in October, November, and March using an English Language Learner rubric established by the district. Teacher observation and conference notes were also analyzed to determine how students incorporated specific strategies taught (in the student/teacher conference or the Writer's Workshop mini-lesson) in their own writing.
