Approaching deafness: a guide for parents.

'This project is designed to guide parents of very young deaf children in the basic steps which must be taken to begin a positive approach to their child's handicap. It is by no means a complete guide for parents in dealing with their infant's hearing impairment. It does try to illustrate common problems with which parents must contend. No attempt is made to deal with the psychological implications of deaf- ness, but it is this writer's contention that much of the frustration that occurs in parents of hearing impaired infants can be avoided if they know where to go and whom to see, and if they can use amplification and total communication effectively.
