Maritime Special Operations Forces: Evolution and Points of Interest in the 21st Century

The United States Special Operations Forces have done an excellent job in the war on terrorism and piracy and have evolved in many ways since the 20th century. These forces must now shift to a stance of readiness in dealing with the rise of China and the aggressiveness of Russia. This thesis will demonstrate the points of interest and threat in the maritime regions of the world and discuss why the U.S. must ready its Special Forces for the 21st century. Research and development as well as acquisitions must be reevaluated in order to match modern adversaries.
