Effect of nutrition knowledge on dental care

The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a relationship between nutrition knowledge of dental clinic patients and their eating habits. Using the assumption that patients with nutrition background have some knowledge about the relation of sweets and dental caries that would affect their eating habits. Data were gathered using a questionnaire and 7-day food records of 40 patients in a periodontist's clinic in North Hollywood in California. Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between nutrition education and eating behavior of patients. Data indicated that good nutrition knowledge existed among the subjects in the areas investigated.
