Exploring wind band literature

The purpose of this project is to explore the repertoire available for the wind band medium. In the author's studies, a question often asked by fellow students studying music education was, "what kind of works are available to program for our future students and band programs?" Fortunately, there is a wide variety of quality compositions of academic merit available for chamber winds and wind ensembles. The author selected works ranging from the Romantic Period to more contemporary works, while researching compositions written by composers often considered "fathers" of music for military bands. This final project is a culmination of research on various pieces for several different ensembles of varying ability. The author hopes this paper can serve as a tool for those seeking ideas of the kinds of works available and accessible to their ensembles.
