Smoke tunnel design

Our objective was to design and build a smoke tunnel that will provide a facility for visual investigation of airflow phenomena occurring in the study of fluid dynamics and aerodynamics. The tunnel will be used as part of the fluid mechanics lab. Evenly spaced thin smoke streams are passed over test models to show the effects of airstream behavior at a variety of airspeeds. The types of models will include various airfoils, and simple shapes. The tunnel will have the capacity to simulate situations that prototypes would encounter. For instance, the angle of attack of a wing can be changed, or the model can be rotated.
