Experimental evaluation of the California State University, Northridge attenna range

The methods used for and the results of an experimental evaluation of the levels of reflections on the California State University, Northridge outdoor antenna range are described. The test frequencies chosen for this evaluation were 1.2 GHz, 2.2 GHz, and 4.2 GHz. The relative levels of reflections occurring near the axis of the range were investigated through the use of the Longitudinal Field Probe Method as well as the Transverse Field Probe Method. The relative levels of reflection occurring at wide angles with respect to the range axis were determined through the use of the Antenna Pattern Comparison Method. The reflections were suppressed by the use of diffraction screens and microwave absorbers whose location were determined from an analysis of the measured data.
