System level analysis of switching power amplifiers at microwave frequencies

The Class E amplifier offers good efficiency at high frequencies. The computer simulation models are used by power amplifier designers to simulate their designs before fabrication. This thesis aims to validate a simulation model of CLY 5 amplifier first presented by Markovic et al [1]. ADS is used for the simulations. The model is compared with experimental data in Markovic and Mader’s thesis [3] on the subject. The data sheet provided by the manufacturer is used to benchmark the model’s performance. It was found during investigation that certain parameters of the initial model needed to be modified. After modification, the model is compared with experimental data in Markovic and Mader’s papers on the subject. The model agreed closely with the experimental results thus confirming its validity as the simulation model for the CLY 5 amplifier.
