Characteristics of victims of violent family incidents.
Tradition has it that the beginning of a paper such as this should serve to convince the reader of the importance of studying violence and the need for further research in the area. In these times, however, it seems trite to quote statistics on the current or increasing rate of violent crimes or to relate gory stories of violent incidents just to convince the wary reader. As an integral part of any violent scenario, the victim shares the same justification for study as the topic of violence itself. Although the importance 01 tne study of the victim toward expanding the understanding of violence was not recognized until fairly recently, it has rapidly grown into a discipline of its own. The science of victimology includes all aspects of the study of the victim of crime from predispositional factors, to precipitating behaviors, to the effects of crime on the victim after the incident.
