A guide to navigating the juvenile justice system: a social justice focused website for Stanislaus and San Joaquin County

This graduate project involved the creation of an informational website tool that is accessible to anyone who deems the content relevant to their current circumstances (system-involved population). Navigating the juvenile justice system can be confusing and stressful, and many parents feel helpless and filled with uncertainty. Families often receive little guidance as to how they can effectively participate in the juvenile justice system and how best to advocate for their child. Additionally, few accommodations are made to include families in the process. This graduate project was created based on open dialogue with families who have been through the juvenile justice system process, juvenile justice judges and attorneys and probation officers within San Joaquin and Stanislaus County. The Guide to the Juvenile Justice System for San Joaquin and Stanislaus County can be found at This online website tool is grounded in the social justice and empowerment approach, as it provides families valuable information and knowledge that can aid them in better understanding the juvenile justice system and properly and effectively advocating for their child during their system-involved process.
