Repeated readings facilitate fluency in primary language learners

The purpose of this study is to examine the method of repeated readings and its effect on the fluency of young readers in their primary language. Through the use of repeated readings, (rereading a passage until it is mastered), students enjoy learning to read while becoming fluent and competent readers. This study supports that the repeated reading method promotes fluency, intonation, expression, comprehension and motivation in all readers. Repeated readings also facilitate the process of learning to read making it a pleasant and manageable experience for emergent readers. Then, these students are able to develop good reading behaviors, enjoy reading as children and continue to read as adults to become life long learners.
