Steady-state numerical solution of two-dimensional recirculating flow-fields

This report analyzes transport equations for a two-dimensional rectangular cavity with a recirculating flow-field using a finite-difference iterative method. The computer program R2DRFP was developed for this project using Patankar's algorithm called Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equations, Revised (SIMPLER). Solutions for the stream function, vorticity and temperature were also incorporated into the program. The code was applied to sample cases including a model of a falling film evaporator and a free convection problem. Validity of the code was established through comparison with published programs in the literature. Sensitivity of the program's ability to converge on a solution was also explored. Results are provided in graphical form.
