Self-Help Guidebook for High School Students and Parents Regarding Social Media

About 88% of teenagers have access to a smartphone and 75% of teenagers use social media. Yet, adolescents are not the only population to partake in this social media phenomenon, about 74% of adults have reported using some type of social media and social networking site. The increase in social media and cell phone usage has started to create a shift in overall communication of this current generation. The purpose of this project was to develop a guidebook for incoming high school students and their parents regarding social media and cell phone usage. Specifically, the guidebook will help students and their parents gain awareness on topics such as adolescent development, cell phone addiction, the impact of social media on mental health, positive ways to use social media, and activities for both parents and children to participate in without social media and cell phones.
