Project

Online Advising at California State University San Marcos

Already offering a robust catalog of online or hybrid courses, California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks to implement its first fully online degree program in Spring 2014 through the Department of Extended Learning. Due to this plan, The need for more accessible online student services became evident. Strategizing how CSUSM could best assist students not able to come to the physical campus and identifying what services these students would need became a priority for academic advisors. One of the most prominent needs identified by discussion and planning was a systematic way for students to receive academic advising information and support from a distance. The findings of this project are intended to inform and provide the foundation for online advising models across the CSUSM campus, as well as adapt to the fluctuating needs of our diverse student population.
