Development of a food-based nutrition pamphlet for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients with low body weight

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is the fourth leading cause of death and affects more than ten millions persons in the United States. Malnutrition is one of the most common morbidities of COPD that negatively affect patient outcome. Because of the chronic nature of COPD, patients need dietary guidelines at home to ensure the continuity of nutrition support. Currently, there are no specific patient education materials regarding COPD patients with low body weight and their specific nutritional requirements. Therefore, to address this issue, a food-based nutrition pamphlet was created to help COPD patients with low body weight understand the benefits of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and follow the guidelines in home settings.
