A paraprofessional's guide to working with students with special needs

This thesis and the accompanying project is a review of literature regarding the training of paraprofessionals working with students with special needs and a training guide entitled, "A Paraprofessional's Guide to Working with Students with Special Needs." The guide is to accompany a new-hire paraprofessional inservice for district employees working with students with learning disabilities in the general education setting at both the middle and secondary levels. The guide, accompanying presentation slides, and reference handouts are based upon a "Paraprofessional Survey" conducted by the authors of paraprofessionals working with students with special needs in the general education setting at both the middle and secondary levels. The guide and the supplementary materials cover such topics as the processes of special education, accommodations and modifications in the general education classroom, behavior management strategies, and other resources for paraprofessionals.
