Social work student perceptions about licensure and clinical preparedness
The purpose of this study was to explore MSW student perceptions about licensure and clinical preparedness in their social work program. This study was guided using a quantitative method and exploratory research by design. Three research questions were utilized to help guide the survey; 1. What are social work student perceptions about licensure? ; 2. What are social work student perceptions regarding their field practicum experiences in relation to clinical social work? ; And 3. How do students describe their academic preparation for clinical social work practice? A total of 334 MSW students participated in this online study. MSW student participants reported their overall perception about licensure is that they are unsure and neither agree nor disagree with licensure questions throughout the survey. Results also indicated that students are unsure and neither agree nor disagree with the field questions throughout the survey. Lastly, MSW student participants reported that they agree their MSW education is preparing them for clinical practice.
