Building-edged wind turbine

A project submitted to the faculty of the California Maritime Academy in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

The purpose of this project is to take a Savonius Wind Turbine, determine if it is a feasible source of power, and find a design that will make it an effective. Looking at different versions of Savonius Wind Turbines helped guide the designs we made for the turbine. Following our initial prototypes, we analyzed the wind speeds atop a roof at various heights. Using FEA programs, we had a general idea of where the Coriolis effect would take place. Placing our VCDU atop a roof allowed us to know at exactly what height the effect would happen.
