The Los Angeles LGBT Center LIFEWORKS Mentorship Program: A collaboration to identify and develop potential grant funding

Since 1969 the Los Angeles LGBT Center has cared for, championed, and celebrated LGBT individuals and families in Los Angeles and beyond. By building a world where LGBT people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society the Los Angeles LGBT Center offers programs, services, and global advocacy that span four broad categories: Health, Social Services and Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership and Advocacy. For the purpose of this project we focused on a program that falls under the category of Culture and Education: The Lifeworks Mentorship Program. In the last 14 years, over 600 LGBTQ+ young people age 24 and under have participated in the Lifeworks Mentorship Program at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. The Lifeworks Mentorship Program has been a pioneer in LGBTQ+ youth mentoring. Over the course of the programs history, the intent and priority has been for the adult mentors to serve as an essential member within the young person's support system.
