The relationship between childhood adversities and early maladaptive schemas
Adverse childhood experiences are prevalent in the United States and because of how frequently they occur it is important to take a closer look at how they impact individuals later in life. Previous research has shown that individuals with histories of childhood adversities have an increased risk of developing mental health problems. There are many factors that may facilitate the development of mental health problems in individuals with histories of childhood adversities, one being the development of early maladaptive schemas. The study took an exploratory look into the relationship between childhood adversities and early maladaptive schemas. Results show a moderate association between the two measures.
