Parent education in the cooperative preschool : parents and professionals give their perspectives

This study was conducted to assess the current practices, interest and needs for parent education in the San Fernando Valley Council of Parent Participation Nursery Schools. Eight teacher/directors and seventy-four parents were surveyed for their perspectives on parent education. Demographic information pertaining to the schools on the participants was gathered. The teacher/director's questionnaire focused on the methods and content used in their programs. Questions were included on program improvement, development and information resources. The parent's questionnaire focused on methods, content, additional needs, preferred topics and their sources of information for parenting. The teacher/directors indicated that the methods were offered more than the parents reported. Methods were offered to the parents regardless of how effective they were perceived to be. The parents indicated a high degree of interest in participation. (See more in text.)
