Curriculum design for the trainers in health fields in Nepal

In view of the realized needs for preparing trainers in health fields as perceived by the Department of Health, His Majesty’s Government of Nepal, this Curriculum Design for the Trainers in Health Fields in Napal has been developed. Since there is not even a minimum required number of permanent trainers to carry out training programs for the paramedical workers, especially for the intergrated districts, the author proposes a curriculum design and a scheme for implementation to provide and basis for producing the required number of skilled trainers in health fields. With the implementation of this curriculum, a minimum number of trainers can be produced for the purpose of planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating paramedical training in the country. The following rationale of curriculum development was used to develop the proposed curriculum. Firstly, trainers’ responsibilities were analyzed and these responsibilities were translated into several content areas. Then the following steps were adopted as a process of developing the proposed curriculum: Step 1. Grouping similar information into content areas. Step 2. Developing concepts to be stressed. Step 3. Expanding content outlines related to the content areas and concepts. Step 4. Developing instructional objectives. Step 5. Selecting and developing learning opportunities. Step 6. Developing evaluative criteria. With the careful implementation of this training curriculum, a sufficient number of skilled trainers in health fields can be produced to meet the training needs of the Department of Health, His Majesty’s Government of Nepal. An implementation scheme has been developed for this purpose. Since the preparation of trainers is an ongoing activity of the department, the proposed training curriculum and its implementation scheme also provide a basis to improve the quality of paramedical training in the long run.
