Technology and the Paperless Future of the Los Angeles Superior Court

The Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest trial court in the United States, providing access to justice for millions of people each year, across a broad range of issues. For years the Court failed to keep abreast with technology, and its automated case management systems, the technological lifeblood of the Court, became outdated and inefficient. The Court's vision of a paperless future meant updating its case management systems with new technology that is geared to support the paperless court, allowing for electronic processing and storage of all information related to a court case. This research study examines whether the updated technology utilized by the Court's new case management systems can support the Court's vision of a paperless future.
