A framework: administrative support for new teachers

This study examines the support being delivered to new elementary teachers by site administrators. Both beginning teachers and site administrators completed surveys regarding current practices at the site level. The survey was developed using current research on beginning teacher support. The study analyzed the responses to determine differences and similarities in the perceptions of the administrators and teachers. The results of this analysis produced an overview of the current practices in two elementary school districts. From these discussions, the researchers developed a checklist framework that may be used for site administrators to ensure that systematic support to new teachers is being delivered.
