Residents' Perceptions of Community Policing Efforts in Richmond, California
Richmond, California, a diverse, working-class community long plagued with high crime rates, implemented a community policing strategy in the early 2000s and made significant gains in reducing crime in the years since. Community policing is a proactive philosophy which emphasizes the importance of building community-police relationships in order to work together to combat crime. The purpose of this study was to explore the opinions of the Richmond, California community pertaining to community policing efforts and the Richmond Police Department since these sentiments would be vital to the community and the police forming a trusting bond.
