Supporting reading fluency and prosody of English language learners

In the educational system the number of English Language Learners continues to rise in the classrooms. Now more than ever it is critical that educators provide adequate interventions to support ELLs with reading difficulties. It is important that ELLs acquire all five reading components to becoming fluent readers. This project presents research on the importance of supporting ELLs with reading and implementing reading strategies and interventions. After reviewing the research that has been conducted, the handbook introduces the pros and cons of becoming fluent readers and introduces vocabulary and fluency interventions that can be implemented at the secondary level. Additionally, the handbook provides parents with online resources that provides additional information on how to support their struggling readers at home.
