Nurturing the gifted potential of an EL student: reading comprehension strategies
This action research case study investigated the following research question: "How can one educator nurture the gifted potential of an EL student by providing reading comprehension support?" Results indicate that it is necessary to tap into background/prior knowledge so that English learners can connect to the reading. In addition, gifted English learners also need to be challenged through higher level thinking questions. However, barriers in communication skills make assessing reading comprehension difficult.
