Responses of a shell induced by potential flow

A system of equations of motions for a circular cylindrical shell subjected to a set of generalized pressure loading is derived by means of Newtonian mechanics. The equations are scrutizined for their applicability in different classes of engineering problems as presented in Section I. A set of formulas based upon ASME codes or equivalent, that can be employed for the estimation of piping stresses, is presented in Section II.
