Personalized learning plans for privately placed students with learning disabilities

Personalized learning plans have been used throughout the world to support self-advocacy and self-determination and for planning student learning that aligned with students' hopes and dreams for the future. The Winston School staff identified a need to create a formal document that would include many of the aspects of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) but would also include design features that relate specifically to the hopes and dreams of their students. This document would be a Personalized Learning Plan (PLP). This study was designed to assess parent, student, and staff interest in the development of various areas of PLPs, to determine what student information should be included and how the process could be accomplished in order to promote student involvement and self-advocacy.
