Wind Turbine : a project for the DOE Collegiate Wind Competition

A small scale wind turbine was designed to compete in the 2nd Collegiate Wind Competition. Detailed electrical, mechanical, materials, and aerodynamic analysis was done as part of the design process. A Spice model was created and iterated up for the electrical design and analyis. Mechanical modelling was done in solidworks and anyalysed with Ansys. Aerodynamic modelling was completed with NREL NWTC FAST. We designed a turbine capable of producing 40Wat 10ms-1 wind speed. Additionally, it could maintain that power output at any exceeding wind speed, and survive winds up to 17ms-1. Materials used were Delrin, PLA, carbon fiber, and high strength stainless steel.
