Outpatient physical therapy for a patient with lumbar degeneration
The patient was evaluated with goniometry, manual muscle test, Numeric Pain Rating Scale, and Oswestry Disability Index, and a plan of care was established. Main goals for the patient were to decrease pain, increase range of motion and strength, decrease difficulty with picking up things from the floor, increase participation in a nature society, and decrease disability level. Main interventions used were manual therapy, instruction in a home exercise program, behavior training and education, neuromuscular re-education, and therapeutic exercise. The patient achieved the following goals: decreased pain, increased range of motion, decreased difficulty with picking up things from the floor, increased participation in a nature society, and decreased disability level. The patient was discharged with a home exercise program.
