A handbook for increasing parental involvement in a dual immersion program

Parent participation in a dual immersion program is a critical factor for student success in the program. This thesis project examined research on this topic in order to identify successful strategies that schools can use to increase the academic achievement of all students in a dual immersion program. According to the research, parent involvement of Latino parents differed from the traditional parent involvement in schools. As a result, this handbook included a series of workshops to inform all parents of how a 90/10 dual immersion program functions. In addition some workshops were created where strategies were shared that could guide parents as they supported their children while they were enrolled in the program kindergarten through high school. Using this handbook would increase both parental support and academic achievement in a 90/10 dual immersion program.
