The affects [sic] of using fifth grade instructional level texts on reading comprehension and motivation

In this study I ask the question: How does fifth grade reading instruction using instructional level texts affect student's motivation and success in reading comprehension? Two different groups of children were used in this study. Each group consisted of five children. Both groups used an instructional level text to guide their reading instruction. Two different texts were used, both appropriate for the groups' specific need. I wished to compare the results of their pre and post assessments using this kind of text to drive instruction rather than using the fifth grade basal reader. Both groups were given pre and post assessments. Overall, both groups were successful. Some of the students in the groups that I looked at made very little progress, but most students made great gains. However, they all made progress that I would have expected.
