The Effects of Incorporating Peer Buddy Programs to Help Facilitate Social Interactions in Elementary Schools

This study will explore types of inclusion programs for students with special needs. It will then examine an existing buddy program called the Sharing Our Acceptance and Respect (SOAR) program. This causal-comparative study compared a control group that received no treatment to the classroom with treatment to determine the level of effects that the SOAR program have on the student’s perceptions of their social acceptance. Data was collected for 6 primary research questions and analyzed. The researcher found that the data collected in this study was not conclusive enough to determine a difference in student’s perceptions between the treatment and control group.
