High School Volunteer Motivation and Retention in a Non-Profit Organization: A Case Study on Big Brothers Big Sisters

This research proposal will examine the motivations of high school aged volunteers in a non-profit organization. Teens participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters after school program will be surveyed and observed in order to determine what their biggest motivations to volunteer are. Leadership, organizational environment, and self-motivation factors will all be taken into consideration when examining the data. Conclusive results will further fill in the gaps of volunteer studies done on adults and provide insight to the mindset of volunteer youth.
