How Hispanic families prepare their children for school
The principle questions that this study attempts to answer are: How do Hispanic parents prepare their children for school?, What do Hispanic parents believe their children need to know and do to be ready for school?, How were successful Hispanic children prepared for school? and What are their obstacles? This study uses ethnographic methods to study how the parents of seven Hispanic children prepared their children for Kindergarten. All of these families migrated to Southern California from Mexico and have very similar socioeconomic backgrounds. It also uses extant data consisting of test scores taken in the students' classroom. Those test scores were used to compare each student's school achievement with their parents' expectations for their children and the preparational methods they described. The main point of comparison made between these families was the parents' educational achievement.
