Once upon a time-- integrating the dramatic arts into the third grade curriculum and how it impacts student learning
This Master's Project documented one teacher's practice ofintegrating the dramatic arts into the curriculum and the impact it had on student learning, by having students write and perform their own fairy tale plays. Nine boys and eleven girls, ages eight and nine years old participated in this study. Data collection included the teacher's journal, student's self-reflection, and student's artifacts. Students showed improvement in the areas ofreading, reading with expression, writing, and revision. Students also demonstrated increased teamwork and cooperation. The findings from this project suggest that students who participate in the dramatic arts can enhance skills that benefit them educationally and socially.
